We don't know how many women die annually because they were born that way, but we do know we cannot change our sex, so despite being 🌈UDHR old 👑 I have become major transphobe, the amount of misogyny & feminist death threats from RTA is APPALLING & unacceptable. #terfisaslur

A dear friend of mine also used the Emperor’s New Clothes story as her reasoning for not affirming people identifying as trans. Thank you for writing the story out. It’s so sad to see these people delude themselves and then to demand that others go along or else they’re hateful even though they just want to be able to speak the truth. It’s been said that living with someone who identifies as trans is similar to torture people go through as prisoners of war where they are forced to agree with lies or else…. I love my son even though he is as deluded as this Emperor for he also wears a dress and believes he’s a woman 😣

I did intend adding a general apology to anyone who’d done this before me (as well the tongue in cheek one to Anderson and Kafka!). It seemed such an obvious spoof that someone else must have got there first! But I couldn’t find one online and it seemed well worth repeating even if as was likely it had been done before! I wrote it as a bit of light relief from my usual philosophical pondering. But as you make clear from your own story it’s not a laughing matter at all. So I appreciate the fact that you weren’t offended by the tone.

Thank you for responding to my post! I did recently reread what you wrote and I think I found a place where you used “she” but meant “he”? : calling him “your highness” and proclaiming in stage whispers how beautiful… how elegant… how very desirable she was.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. I did in fact mean "she" because I was trying to capture the language they'd use. But I think you're right: it's not reported speech but so it ought to be "he"... or perhaps "she" in italics (to register the ambiguity of perspective)? I'll revisit!

That is an official part of the rules for eg the Sufficient Velocity forums. Rule 2, summarized as "Don't be hateful", includes a specific requirement to "gender everyone appropriately."
